Technology and terminology can be confusing

Here’s our translation tool:

Podcasts are mini broadcasts which can be downloaded onto computers, mobiles, MP3 or MP4 players by clicking on a website link.   Information or entertainment in podcasts is stored and listened to at the individual’s convenience. They can be automatically updated by RSS (see below).

RSS stands for ‘really simple syndication’ service. When you click on a ‘subscribe to’ link, RSS automatically adds any new or updated sound or video files in that series to your computer,  MP3 or MP4 player system when they are added by the people making the podcast.

The definition of Social Media alters as the concept and technology develops.  A simple explanation would be; websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking; or as we at LimeGreen see it;  a collection of online platforms and tools that people use to share content, profiles, opinions, insights, experiences, perspectives and media itself, facilitating conversations and interactions online between groups of people; an essential business communication tool.

SoundCloud is an audio platform that enables anyone to upload, record, promote and share their originally-created sounds across the internet, in a simple, accessible and feature-rich way. From sample to symphony and soundbite to soliloquy, SoundCloud allows sound creators anywhere to instantly record audio on the site or via mobile applications and share them publicly or privately; to embed sound across websites, social networks and blogs and receive feedback from the community.

Vimeo is a video sharing website where you can upload, share and view videos.  As of December 2011 it attracted 65 million unique visitors per month.
